"Who comes to equity must do so with clean hands" is long-established doctrine,1 governing the willingness of courts to provide equitable remedies. When a plaintiff "is engaged in a continuing course of fraudulent or illegal conduct, more or less closely connected with the subject-matter of the suit," equitable remedies "obviously ought to be denied."2 But unclean hands is usually a defense in equity, invoked similarly to laches; can a plaintiff's demonstrably unclean hands - think Lady Macbeth
